…Camille Caspe!
Thank you to both candidates for sticking through this long election process, and thank you to everyone who voted!
Here are the videos from the Chair 2010-2011 debate that was held yesterday:
Also, here is the link to the second runoff ballot:
Before the debate on Monday, please take the time to read the following updated statements from your Chair candidates, Camille Caspe and Angie Mendoza:
Camille’s Statement
As chair I will work towards bringing back clarity and restructuring the organization by making sure our goals and ideals as an org stay true and coincide with the mission statement. I want to educate UCSD and greater San Diego community about Pilipin@ culture not only through our annual Pilipin@ Cultural Celebration but also through other means of communication. I will also work towards continuously promoting equity and equality for Pilipin@s and underrepresented students by spreading awareness through dialogue and challenging each other’s perspectives. Ideally, my role as chair would encompass three main objectives. First, since chair is not restricted to a main event, I want to be board’s support system by constantly doing check-ins for those in the midst of planning. Secondly, a chair should be innovative and creative. Like previously mentioned, since chair does not have a specific event to plan, I would like to hold all encompassing workshops, events, etc. Lastly, I want to work on challenging board by facilitating good discussion with the board space and the KP space in general. By this, I mean to say that I want to constantly ask questions by playing the devil’s advocate and posing different points of views. I am running on the platform of being idealistic but staying realistic. This ensures accountability by constantly meeting very tangible goals.
Angie’s Statement
Vote for Angie Mendoza because she is dedicated and would be humbled to serve as next year’s Chair! I see this position as one of servant leadership and you can count on me to use this position to maintain the morale of Board and of members of the organization. Morale is important to me because it means that there is a sense of hope and faith in an otherwise difficult situation. I promise to do my best to accomplish this alongside my goals of growth, leadership, and inclusion. I acknowledge that there are many emotions right now. Tell ME how you feel. The first step I would take to accomplishing my goals is to open lines of communication between you and me. We might have a difference in opinions, but that shouldn’t deter you from talking to me because we could see eye-to-eye on other things. KP is a collective, a community. I cannot do anything without you. I am here running because of you. I hope we can all respect the process of unification so it’s not supporters of one candidate against the other because ultimately we are members of KP and need to work with our Chair, whoever she may be. I can hold my ground when necessary but I am flexible as well. My vision for this organization can only go as far as you want because it’s not all about me. My goals are personal goals for what I want to say I accomplished but aren’t the extent of what we can accomplish together.
And your new Chair is…
…still to be decided. Because the amount of votes was exactly the same for both candidates (verified by CCC interns), we will have a debate on Monday, May 10th from 5-6pm in the Red Shoe Room (Sungod Lounge, 2nd floor Price Center West). Please come 30 minutes before the debate starts so that you can submit possible topics for the Chair candidates to discuss. The debate topics will be chosen at random, and Lincoln-Douglas rules will be loosely followed.
Voting will take place for three days once the debate videos have been posted online. Votes will be verified by Grace Bagunu, our KP advisor, before results are released.
We strongly encourage SAAC members to attend and participate in this run-off process.
If you have any questions or concerns, please contact either Marleina or Raechelle.
