Kapwa Tao

Kamalayan
Kamalayan Kollective of UCSD is a political, non-profit organization, that seeks to raise consciousness and awareness on & about Pilipin@/American community issues, not only in San Diego, but also in the greater United States & the Philippines. It is our aim to provide an alternative, comfortable, and intimate space where we foster community and family amongst our brothers and sisters and other peoples. We aim to make connections with other students, staff, faculty, and community members in order to maintain an inclusive environment where we learn, teach, & grow from each other. We strongly believe that awareness begins with self first, and filters to an awareness about community, political, historical, & cultural issues. We seek to bridge Philippine-America with the Philippines.

Kick-its are every even week Tuesday at 630pm at the UCSD Cross Cultural Center

Kabayanihan

Kabayanihan traces its roots from humble beginnings within the Filipino language classes at UCSD. Students within the class fought and fundraised to keep the language classes from being cut from the school budget and to help it stay within the curriculum. This was done for two years – 2004 and 2005 – and, after the second year, the classes were finally recognized as fully funded and thus Kabayanihan achieved its goal.

Back then, Kabayanihan went by another moniker: Pilipino Students Saving Tagalog, or P.S.S.T. for short. This then changed to Bayanihan in order to reflect the essence of the group, which was to collectively help one another. Fast forward to 2007, and Kabayanihan is born. Kabayanihan reflects both the origins of the organization and everything that it has yet to achieve.

In other words, Kabayanihan is based around the ideals of collective unity, community and heroism, remixed into an organization that is both fun and engaging at the same time.

Meetings will be held every Monday night from 6-7:30PM at the UCSD Cross Cultural Center unless otherwise noted.
