Hi everyone!

I hope yall are having a great week and are on top of academics and everything else that is on your plate. If not, SMILE :3

Anyways, so here’s the dillio for this weekend, so READ VERY CAREFULLY:

(1) FRIDAY:
FCC Preview Night
Call time: 6PM
Location: Sungod Lawn
If you are in PCC, it is mandatory for you to go, JUST LIKE ANY FRIDAY PRACTICE!

(2) SATURDAY:
Location: Mandeville Courtyard/Dolores Huerta
Contemporary: 9AM-12PM
Cultural: 12-3PM
Community Meeting with Pacos: 3:30-4:30PM
PCC, Deconstructed Aralan with Alum: 4:30-5:30PM
Please please please do not be late! It is the last time you will be practicing dances for this quarter and everyone needs to be done with choreo by this day. NO KIDDING.

(3) SUNDAY:
Location: CCC Comunidad Room
Runthrough Calltime: 11:30AM
Runthrough: 11:30AM-6PM
Contemporary: 6PM-9PM (cleaning and blocking)
Actors and dancers HAVE TO COME TO RUNTHROUGH. NO EXCEPTIONS!!!!

If any chance you are going to be late, or cannot make any day, call Naomi and Kevin (ONLY) (our numbers are in the facebook group for all cast) at least the day before. not calling beforehand is considered an unexcused absence. NOT having a valid excuse (this is to our interpretation of what is valid or not), there is a possibility that you may be cut from the dance completely (I don’t play around, so please please please take this seriously). Take note that there is technically only 3 weeks left of practice. Realize that we are on a serious time crunch now. I know everyone here is a student so prioritize as well as yall can.

Bring your homework, bring food, bring your positive attitudes because every day will be a long day. You will have down time to get food and do other work.

Don’t forget to smile!,
Naomi Praise Genota
Kevin Joel Llorente
P.S. Don’t forget to fill up your programs survey! http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/PCGC29M

Hey everyone! I hope yall are having a wonderful and relaxing winter break!
Okay, down to business. PCC season is just around the corner and Kevin and I need your help! We need more choreographers and OCC memberssss!

So where do I find these applications?
Applications can be found on http://ucsdkp.org/pcc-2010

When are they due?
Apps are due January 15, 2010 for OCC and January 4,2010 for Choreographers by 11:59pm

What kind of choreographers do we need?
We need cultural dance and contemporary dance choreographers. Both are equally important to PCC, so apply!!!

What committees can I be involved in?
You can be involved in one or more committees:
Alumni
Keeps continual communication with alumni; provides a space for alumni interaction with the cast. Keeps the alumni updated with PCC events. Should tell the alumni about: (1) PCC (the dates and how they can reserve their tickets; work with Tickets) (2) Practices (if alumni want to attend) (3) Attending or assisting with dance workshops (4) Helping with choreography.

Sets up the alumni social in conjunction with PCC. Works closely with KP’s Alumni Liaison. A.k.a. VIP Committee when working with Tickets.

Art Pavilion
Collects artwork to be displayed in the PCC venue. Asks alumni, faculty, staff, students, and community to contribute any form of art for the PCC Art Pavilion. Sets a display in the pavilion for all the artwork to be viewed pre and post show.

Costumes
Responsible for taking inventory of all PCC costumes and props. Must be able to arrange, distribute, and collect all costumes and accompanying props used by the cast. Tasks include, but are not limited to, purchasing, maintaining, and making (sewing, collecting, purchasing) the props and costumes. Must be prepared on the day of PCC with safety pins, bobby pins, hair nets, extra costumes, and the means to help the cast put on their costumes, if necessary.

Dance Coordinator
Works closely with Choreographers, Co-Co’s, Director, and script writers. Works with both the creative and technical aspects of the dances (creative vision is executed physically on stage; fits script while staying in realistic boundaries). Assist choreographers in relation to dancers; help run dance rehearsals. Work with Public Operations to book/reserve spaces for rehearsals. May conduct research into the history, background, and/or interesting facts about the varying dances and present such information. Must be familiar with the choreography; be able to teach moves if choreographers are not present.

Finance
Works with Fundraising to manage budget and funds. Keeps track of the budget and expenses for PCC. Responsible for reimbursements and handles all the money for PCC, which includes cast fees, advertisement spaces, costume and set costs, etc.

FUNdraising
Raises funds in fun and creative ways. Some activities include selling candy roses and singing grams for Valentines Day, handling the process of the PCC shirt, making sales and collecting donations the night of PCC and any other fundraisers that are appropriate and well-timed before PCC. FUNdraising and Publicity work together to promote PCC by outreaching to shops, companies and families that may contribute to PCC funds.

Music
Contacts those interested in helping with music to use their musical talents as needed (PCC band, PCC choir, other instrumentation, etc.). The musicians work together to compose a theme song for PCC and to teach it to the cast to sing as the closing event. Works with the script writers and choreographers to incorporate songs/sound effects into the script and dance sequences.

Ourstorian
Documents the whole PCC journey/movement through photos, video, scrapbooks, interviews, and other creative ways. Creates a reference for future KP members as well as for the present PCC cast to be able to look back on their role in the making of PCC. This includes, but is not limited to, practices, picnics, retreats, OCC meetings, alumni interviews, dialogues about PCC, etc.

Outreach
Works with Publicity to publicize PCC, especially to local high schools. Outreaches to high schools — ie: tell them and the community the importance of PCC, inform them how they could help and also publicize other KP-related events that might apply to them as HS students. Also outreaches to other colleges, and sends them invitations. Makes phone-calls and sends emails to the respective high schools and colleges. (One of the biggest things to improve on is the range of outreach; outreach to schools all over San Diego, not just schools near our area.) Can work with KP’s Outreach Coordinator.

Programs
Creates the program for PCC to be distributed the night of the event. Researches prospective printers and rough estimates (work with Finances). Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, taking photos of cast members for the program (work with Ourstorian), compiling cast member information, organizing advertisements.

Public Operations
Public Operations acts as the Co-Cultural Coordinators’ right-hand person, alleviating them of some of their responsibilities. Such responsibilities include, but are not limited to, making reservations for practices and other related events, keeping the cast informed about important dates and deadlines, making sure practices run smoothly and in an organized fashion, and running OCC meetings and planning those agendas.

This year’s Pilipina/o Cultural Celebration (PCC) addresses issues that affect Pilipina/o American youth. This theatrical production will attempt to address personal trying times, explore philosophical conundrums and address political ideas that deal with pain, family and love in a performative manner. By using dance, dialogue and poetry, this year’s PCC follows the development of the main characters that examine the contours between life, death and after-life.

A 1995 article was published in the San Diego Union-Tribune entitled, “Filipino Girls Think Suicide at No.1 Rate.” This seminal article still speaks truth to many young Pilipina/o Americans who often have ineffable personal experiences growing up in America under their immigrant parents. The main characters of PCC: Fayt, Malaya, Trista and Chaos are all Pilipina/o Americans who each deal with pain and death differently. During Fayt’s journey, she meets a young girl named Trista, and through this relationship, she learns to treasure the bouts of emotion and freedom that exist within the most unlikely places. Chaos and Malaya are angels that look after human beings like Fayt and Trista, yet they experience and re-live their own issues. This story outlines Fayt’s experience, which is aligned with the basic premise of the 1995 article – that suicide risk and prevention and that coping with life is real and substantial in our community.
