Hi students and friends,
I need your help in getting out a survey to the UC San Diego Asian
American student community. As some of you know, I am conducting a
study addressing issues of diversity in California’s public
universities. Particularly, on the role of Asian Americans shaping the
discourse, issues, and policy of diversity at UC San Diego (which is
long overdue). The survey asks questions about the “Compton Cookout”,
diversity issues on campus, and student experience at our campus.
This survey is voluntary, however I would greatly appreciate your time
in filling out the survey at the following link:
http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/asianamericansatucsd and/or forwarding
this email to those who might be interested in completing the survey.
Individuals’ name will remain anonymous and all information will be
held confidential.
By the way, this is for my dissertation project.
I am trying to
collect all survey data by the end of finals week. Please forward
this along to those who I might have missed!
Thank you for your time!
Sincerely,
Angela Kong

Dear Friends and Family,
I write to you with the utmost hope that you will help me to save my 1
year old nephew, Jamison Vincent Abrenica. Jamison was diagnosed with a
severe case of aplastic anemia today. It’s been an emotional roller
coaster for my family for the last couple of weeks trying to figure out
why he’s been so sick.
Jamison has undergone test after test, including a bone marrow biopsy and
spinal tap. And throughout all of this he has stayed a strong and happy
baby (that’s what he is a baby!). Attached are pictures from the last few
days at the hospital, even with all of the poking, prodding, needles, he
still has a smile.
Jamison is going to have to undergo chemotherapy and will need a bone
marrow transplant. Because he is Filipino it may difficult for us to find
a match for him. I am begging you, if you are not yet a registered bone
marrow donor, please become one today! It is easy! Either visit the
National Marrow Program website
(http://www.marrow.org/JOIN/Join_Now/join_now.html) and sign up to get a
FREE swab kit mailed to you. OR CALL ME and I will personally deliver a
swab kit to your home.
TESTING IS EASY! You are given 4 Q-tip like swabs to swipe across the
inside of your cheek. In less than a minute you can help to save
Jamison’s life or another person who is in need.
Jamison will be turning 2 years old on August 4 and loves to play with
monster trucks and he adores his older sister Malia and misses being with
the other kids at daycare. This is the time of his life where he should
be growing and learning and exploring the world. Please teach him the
beauty in selflessness and humanity by becoming a registered bone marrow
donor today and pass his story (by forwarding this email). My family
needs your help and I have no words to express how much this would mean to
me if you could help me to help Jamison.
If you have any questions, want to learn more about Jamison, how you can
further help (we need help organizing bone marrow drives) or this process
please please feel free to contact me. 510/585 6831 or gdegraci@ucsd.edu
From the bottom of my heart, a sincere thank you for anything you can do.
With love and gratitude,
Glaiza
